More than 3,600 stay options listed

Belfast’s accommodation providers are preparing for a large summer influx, with more than 3,600 options listed for booking on the official Fleadh Cheoil accommodation platform, according to Belfast City Council.

The listed options include budget and luxury hotels, self-catering accommodation, student accommodation, B&Bs and guest houses. That spread matters for an event expected to attract visitors from across the island of Ireland and further afield, including people staying for the full eight days and others dropping in for selected sessions or competitions.

The council and Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann have also confirmed three official campsite locations for visitors who want a more traditional Fleadh stay.

Official campsites at Titanic Quarter, Ormeau Park and Falls Park

The Titanic Quarter site will cater for camper vans and caravans in one of Belfast’s best-known locations. Traditional tent camping will be available at Ormeau Park in south Belfast and Falls Park in west Belfast.

All three official campsites are due to provide toilet, shower and parking facilities, along with food vendors, bar facilities, support staff and 24-hour security. The organisers say the sites will offer convenient access to the city centre, where the main programme of activity will take place.

Booking for the official campsites opens on Monday 1 June at 12 noon. Capacity is limited at each location, and early booking has been advised by organisers.

Package options including car parking are available for bookings at Ormeau Park and Falls Park. Anyone who needs parking must include it when booking.

What visitors can expect during the Fleadh

The eight-day programme will bring together the core parts of Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann: competitions, concerts, céilís, street performances and cultural events. The source information does not list individual event times or a full daily schedule, so visitors should check official event information before finalising plans.

Councillor Natasha Brennan, Chair of Belfast City Council’s Strategic Policy and Resources Committee, said the city’s compact layout means visitors should be close to the action wherever they stay, with access by public transport or on foot to venues and events.

Rachael McGuickin, Deputy Chief Executive of Visit Belfast, said the city is preparing to welcome an unprecedented influx of visitors, while Áine Kearney, Director of Events at Tourism Northern Ireland, encouraged those planning to attend to book soon to secure preferred accommodation.

Traffic and transport arrangements are due to be announced in June, and attendees are being encouraged to follow official event travel guidance.
