Cheshire East Council has officially recognized the international growth and environmental commitments of Three Wrens Gin as part of its new ‘Made in Cheshire East’ campaign. Council leaders visited the family-run distillery in Combermere to highlight its role in driving the local economy through sustainable production and job creation.
International recognition for Combermere spirits
Founded in 2019 by master distiller Nick Wadeson, Three Wrens has evolved from a local startup into a globally recognized brand. The distillery utilizes traditional copper-pot techniques to produce small-batch spirits that have secured multiple international gold medals. Notably, the business received the Golden Fork Award from the Guild of Fine Food, cementing its reputation among the UK’s elite food and drink producers.
Sustainable growth and regional economic impact
The visit by the new power structure for Cheshire East underscores a broader effort to champion businesses that balance commercial success with environmental responsibility. Three Wrens operates with a low-impact philosophy, featuring a glass-refill scheme to minimize waste and an on-site botanical garden for fresh ingredients.
Councillor Nick Mannion, leader of Cheshire East Council, noted that the distillery serves as a prime example of rural ambition. By attracting visitors and supplying trade partners in bulk to reduce transport emissions, the business contributes to the borough’s reputation as a hub for green innovation and creative enterprise.
Future of the Made in Cheshire East initiative
The ‘Made in Cheshire East’ programme aims to showcase the diverse range of enterprises powering the regional economy. For Three Wrens, the partnership provides a platform to share its journey from a 2019 launch to becoming a significant local employer.
Nick Wadeson stated that the council has provided consistent support throughout the distillery’s journey. The local authority continues to invite other regional businesses to participate in the engagement programme to reinforce the borough’s standing as a sustainable place to start and scale operations.
