Free weekly walks across Wolverhampton

The programme currently offers more than a dozen free walks around Wolverhampton every week, according to details released by City of Wolverhampton Council on Friday 12 June 2026.

The walks are designed for people who may not be regular walkers. They range from half an hour to an hour and a half, depending on the location, giving beginners a manageable way to build walking into the week without committing to a long route.

Ramblers Wellbeing Walks Wolverhampton was established in 2021 after previously being known as Walking for Health, which began in 2001. The group marked its anniversary with a special walk around Bantock Park on Tuesday morning, followed by refreshments.

The weekly walking schedule and meeting points

The city programme covers several regular routes, with each walk using a specific meeting point.

Walk When and where to meet
West Park Walk 10.15am every weekday, inside the Devon Road entrance
East Park Walk 10.15am every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, by the new children’s play area
Bantock Park Walk 10.15am every Tuesday, near the car park
Heath Town Park Walk 11.45am every Tuesday, at Bushbury Road opposite Holy Trinity Church
Smestow Nature Valley Walk 10am every Thursday, at Windmill Community Church
Northwood Park Walk 11.45am every Thursday, at Prestbury Medical Practice in Broadway
Boundary Way Walk 10.15am every Friday, at Boundary Way Allotments
Pendeford Walk 10.15am every Friday, at Oasis Community Café

The spread of locations means the recurring walking group is not tied to one park or one side of the city. Regular sessions are listed for West Park, East Park, Bantock Park, Heath Town Park, Smestow Nature Valley, Northwood Park, Boundary Way and Pendeford.

A programme built for beginners and regular returners

The anniversary event at Bantock Park brought together more than 70 walkers, along with current and former walk leaders. Nalin Patel, Volunteer Scheme Co-ordinator, said the turnout had been overwhelming and thanked the volunteers who lead walks close to people’s homes across Wolverhampton.

He said it had been heartwarming to hear the effect walking was having on members. Will Heckford, Programme Lead for The Ramblers, also attended the anniversary event.

Councillor Obaida Ahmed, City of Wolverhampton Council’s Cabinet Member for Health, Wellbeing and Community, pointed to walking as both a social activity and a health activity. She said it can help lower blood pressure, reduce the risk of heart disease, strengthen bones and muscles, improve balance and coordination, and help people maintain a healthy weight.

How to join a Wolverhampton wellbeing walk

There is no booking requirement for the Ramblers Wellbeing Walks Wolverhampton Weekly Walking Programme. People can attend by arriving at the relevant meeting point on the day of the walk.
