Free Solihull drop-ins offer later-life planning help

Solihull residents can speak with local organisations about planning for later life at two free drop-in events this October, with no booking required.

The sessions are for people thinking about their own future, as well as anyone helping a parent or loved one consider care, housing, health or financial planning. Solihull Council is hosting the events, which will bring several advice providers together in Chelmsley Wood and Solihull town centre.

Two free October drop-ins in Chelmsley Wood and Solihull

The first event is on Friday 9 October, from 12pm to 5pm, at The Loft, Bluebell, Chelmsley Wood, B37 5TN. The venue is above ASDA on the second floor.

A second session follows on Monday 12 October, from 12.30pm to 3.30pm, at The Core Library, Solihull town centre, B91 3RG.

Both events are free and visitors do not need to reserve a place or attend at a set appointment time. They can arrive during the published hours and speak to the stallholders available.

One place to ask about care, housing, health and finances

The events will cover issues that can arise when someone is considering later-life arrangements or supporting a relative through those decisions. Topics include finances and planning, vaccinations and health, and housing and care choices.

Stalls will include teams from Solihull Council, the NHS, Age UK Solihull and Carers Trust Solihull, along with other local experts. The format means visitors can raise questions on more than one subject during the same visit, rather than seeking information from each organisation separately.

Councillor Tony Dicicco, Solihull Council’s cabinet member for Adult Social Care and Health, said the sessions were intended to help people prepare for later life, including those looking for information about care options or remaining independent at home.

Who the sessions are for and how to prepare

Everybody is welcome, according to the council. The events may be relevant whether a person is beginning to think ahead for themselves or is trying to understand options for a parent or loved one.

As the sessions are drop-ins rather than appointments, residents who have a particular issue in mind may wish to make a note of the questions they want to raise before arriving. The council has not set out a timed schedule of individual advice sessions, so the practical next step is simply to choose the more convenient date and drop in during its opening hours.
