Wolverhampton families are being invited back to East Park for a free cycling event built around a marshalled ride through the city and a day of bike-focused activities in the park.
Wolverhampton Kidical Mass 2026 takes place on Saturday 13 June, from 11am to 3pm, at East Park, Wolverhampton. Entry is free, with registration available through Eventbrite. The event is aimed at families and children, with younger riders required to be accompanied by a parent or guardian on the route.
The third annual Cycling event and fun day is organised by No Limits to Health and City of Wolverhampton Council. It comes during a week when similar community cycling events are being held around the country to coincide with The Great Big Green Week, from 6 to 14 June, and Bike Week, from 8 to 14 June.
The 4.5-mile ride through Wolverhampton
The centrepiece of the day is an approximately 4.5-mile marshalled family bike ride, due to be set off at about 12.30pm by Hugh Porter MBE, the city’s cycling ambassador, Commonwealth Games gold medallist and former world champion cyclist.
The ride follows a gentle route from East Park around the heart of Wolverhampton and back again. The route is expected to take in landmarks including Molineux and, where possible, use cycle lanes developed by City of Wolverhampton Council.
Bike marshals will accompany riders along the route. Participants are asked to bring roadworthy bikes, and everyone taking part is advised to wear a helmet. Younger children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian, and children in the park must also be accompanied by an adult.
Councillor Bhupinder Gakhal, Cabinet Member for City Transport at City of Wolverhampton Council, described the event as a celebration of safe, family friendly cycling, saying it gives children and families a chance to build confidence riding together on public roads and cycle lanes.
Cycling sessions, repairs and entertainment in East Park
The event is not limited to the ride. East Park will host stalls, refreshments, live entertainment and cycling activities throughout the day.
Families will be able to try cycling skills sessions, have a free go on the East Park Cycle Speedway track, visit bike repair workshops and explore a Lime bike experience zone showcasing electric pedal hire bikes.
Those activities make the day useful for families who may not usually ride beyond short local trips. Skills sessions and repair support can help remove some of the practical barriers that stop occasional riders from using their bikes more often, while the marshalled route gives children a guided experience of riding beyond the park.
