How to vote in the Haringey by-elections this June

Residents in Northumberland Park and Woodside wards are returning to the polls this summer to elect new ward councillors. Following the recent borough-wide local elections, which resulted in the Green Party leading Haringey under a No Overall Control administration, these two by-elections will determine the final makeup of the council chamber. Both votes are scheduled to take place on Thursday, 25 June 2026.

To participate in these elections, residents must meet several statutory deadlines for registration and identification. The following table outlines the critical dates for voters and potential candidates in Haringey.

If you are not already on the electoral register, you must complete your application by midnight on 9 June. Registration can be completed online through the standard government portal.

Under current UK law, voters at polling stations must present an accepted form of photo ID. If you do not possess a passport, driving licence, or an older person’s bus pass, you can apply for a free Voter Authority Certificate. This document is specifically for those without other forms of identification and must be applied for no later than 5pm on 17 June to be valid for the June by-elections.

Postal and proxy voting options

For residents unable to attend a polling station in person on 25 June, alternative voting methods are available. Applications for a postal vote or a standard proxy vote—where someone else votes on your behalf—must be submitted to the Haringey Council electoral services team by 5pm on 10 June.

Those standing for election as a councillor in either ward must ensure their nomination papers are physically delivered to the council by the 29 May deadline. Late submissions cannot be accepted under electoral law. Official notices of election provide the specific locations for delivery and the necessary witness requirements for candidates.
