Northampton safety charter backs women at work

By Beehiveweb News Desk

West Northamptonshire Council has signed the Northamptonshire Women’s Charter, joining more than 90 organisations across the county that have pledged to improve safety for women in the workplace.

The charter is led by Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner Danielle Stone and is intended to help employers show practical action on women’s safety, including safer premises and better workplace support.

More than 90 organisations signed up

West Northamptonshire Council said the move reinforces its commitment to making workplaces safer for women. Organisations that sign the charter receive guidance from crime prevention specialists in the commissioner’s office.

They also gain access to a dedicated Charter Toolkit, which includes tailored training packages for safer working environments.

Commissioner Danielle Stone recently visited the council’s One Angel Square offices in Northampton, where she met council leader Councillor Mark Arnull and presented a certificate marking the authority’s signing of the charter.

Wider work on abuse and sexual violence

The signing sits alongside local work on violence against women and girls. The council recently approved a countywide partnership strategy to tackle domestic abuse and sexual violence, while the commissioner has committed to developing a Northamptonshire-wide approach aimed at halving violence against women and girls over the next decade.

How local organisations can join

The charter is open to organisations that want to join a countywide network focused on women’s safety. The council said participating employers can use the commissioner’s office guidance and toolkit to review workplace risks and strengthen internal training.

Further sign-up details are being handled through the Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner’s office.
