Plymouth Better Transport Week: free events from 15 June
Plymouth residents can try trains, buses, walking and cycling during Better Transport Week Activities, a five-day run of free sessions across the city from Monday 15 June to Friday 19 June.
The Festival/Workshop Series is organised by Plymouth City Council and Plymotion, with events at Plymouth Rail Station, Armada Way, Royal Parade, Brickfields Athletics Track, Coypool and Royal William Yard. Most sessions are drop-in, but the guided walk and Ice Trike taster rides require booking by email at the published contact details.
The week is aimed at the general public, including people who want travel advice, families looking for hands-on activities, commuters considering alternatives, and residents who want to test more accessible ways of getting around Plymouth.
Five days of free travel sessions across Plymouth
Better Transport Week opens on Monday 15 June with Train Day at the city’s main rail station on North Road. The Plymotion team will be on site from 9.30am to 3.30pm with general travel advice and information on incentives for making rail travel part of a journey.
On Tuesday 16 June, the focus moves to buses. A bus accessibility event will run on the Armada Way piazza from 9.30am to 4.30pm, with representatives from the Plymouth Bus Partnership. Visitors will be able to explore the latest buses, try a mobility scooter, speak to staff about journey support, and take part in activities, games and giveaways.
Wednesday 17 June is Walk Day. Participants will take a bus from the city centre to Heybrook Bay, then join a five-kilometre guided coastal walk to Wembury Beach, followed by a picnic and return journey. The meeting point is the A14 stop on Royal Parade at 10.20am, and places must be reserved by email.
Cycling, trikes and workplace travel advice
Bike Day on Thursday 18 June includes an adaptive e-cycling session at Brickfields Athletics Track from 10.30am to midday. The session is delivered in partnership with British Cycling and Plymouth Active, and no booking is required.
The same day also includes Ice Trike taster sessions from Plymouth Bike Hire at Coypool at 1.30pm and 2.30pm. The council describes the Ice Trike as a low-to-the-ground, three-wheeled electric bike designed for comfort and stability. Booking is required for these sessions by the published contact details.
The final day, Friday 19 June, is Business Day at Royal William Yard. The all-day event runs on the green from 9am to 4pm. Bikespace’s Dr Bike service will offer free safety checks and minor repairs, while the Plymotion team will provide advice and incentives linked to walking, cycling and bus travel across Plymouth.
