Refuel at Badaguish: Ticket checks amid wildfire

The Refuel event at Badaguish in Cairngorms National Park is set to proceed with tightly controlled access. Police Scotland’s wildfire update, published on 1 August 2026, says anyone entering through the cordon must show proof of site access or a valid event ticket.

Badaguish is the confirmed venue, and the arrangements apply to ticket holders and others authorised to access the site. The update does not provide an event date, start time, ticket price or public booking information.

Glenmore cordon will reopen only for controlled access

A staged reopening of the cordon at Glenmore is being finalised to allow Refuel to take place safely. This is not a general reopening of the fire-affected area: a strict cordon will remain around access to the event while firefighting operations continue.

For attendees, the important distinction is that permission to reach Refuel does not mean surrounding roads, paths or outdoor destinations have reopened. Entry is being managed for the event, with evidence of access required at the cordon.

Police Scotland says public-safety risks in the affected area include helicopter water bombing, moving heavy machinery and excavations. Crews are also removing a significant number of unsafe trees. Fire damage has caused trees to become uprooted and fall, adding to the reasons for keeping exclusion zones in place.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, landowners and volunteers remain involved in efforts to extinguish the wildfire. Firefighting activity is expected to continue for the rest of the week covered by the police update.

Four roads remain closed near Badaguish

Ticket holders planning their journey should allow for continuing restrictions. The roads listed as closed are:

C7, also known as Ski Road
Forest Lodge access road
Lettoch Road
Dorback

The update does not identify an alternative driving route or provide dedicated event transport arrangements. Attendees therefore should not treat the staged cordon reopening as confirmation that their usual approach to Badaguish is available.

Walking routes cannot be used as alternatives

Walking access remains restricted around Glenmore, Loch Morlich and Badaguish. Closures include the Old Logging Way and routes providing access to Cairngorm Mountain, the Northern Corries, Meall A’ Bhuachaille, the Green Loch or Lochan Uaine, Strath Nethy and Bynack More.

Within Abernethy Forest, the route south of Forest Lodge towards Ryvoan Bothy also remains closed. These restrictions cover both lower-level paths and routes into higher ground, reflecting the active operations and danger from fire-damaged trees.

Have your ticket or site-access evidence ready

Anyone travelling to Refuel should be prepared to present a valid event ticket or proof of site access at the cordon. Police Scotland says cordons are being reviewed regularly and hopes to provide more information about wider access later in the week. Until an updated notice is issued, the listed road and walking-route closures remain in force.
