Remembrance services bring Blackburn and Darwen together
Residents can attend free Remembrance services and wreath-laying ceremonies across Blackburn and Darwen from Saturday 7 November to Wednesday 11 November 2026. The programme includes a concert at King George’s Hall, services at Blackburn Cathedral and St Peter’s Church, and Two Minutes’ Silence outside both town halls. The Mayor’s Remembrance Concert is ticketed; tickets are available through the King George’s Hall box office.
Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council and the Royal British Legion invite the public to join events remembering people who served and died in conflicts past and present. Remembrance Sunday falls on 8 November this year, with Remembrance Day on Wednesday 11 November.
Services and ceremonies across the borough
The first event is a service at Darwen Market Square on Saturday 7 November at 11am. It will be held outside Darwen Town Hall, followed by a wreath-laying ceremony at the Boer War Memorial in Belgrave Square.
On Sunday 8 November, two services are scheduled. St Peter’s Church in Darwen begins its United Service of Remembrance at 9am, followed by a wreath-laying at the War Memorial in Bold Venture Park. Blackburn Cathedral’s United Service begins at 9.30am. Afterward, a parade will form on King William Street and proceed to the Gardens of Remembrance in Corporation Park for a wreath-laying ceremony.

The Mayor’s Remembrance Concert takes place at King George’s Hall in Blackburn on Monday 9 November at 6.30pm. School children from across the borough, local cadets and the Salvation Army Band will take part in an evening of words and music. Tickets are on sale through the hall’s box office.
Two Minutes’ Silence on 11 November
Acts of Remembrance will take place outside Blackburn Town Hall and Darwen Town Hall at 11am on Wednesday 11 November. Both locations will observe the traditional Two Minutes’ Silence. The Blackburn Town Hall service and silence will also be livestreamed on Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council’s Facebook page.
The dates offer several ways to take part: the Saturday service in Darwen, Sunday services and wreath-laying ceremonies, the Monday concert, or the town hall observances on Remembrance Day. The public is invited to attend.
