Free Family Zone play sessions are continuing at the Wellbeing Hub in Crown Buildings, Wrexham, during the school holiday period from 22 July to 31 August. The sessions are free, require no booking and are open to families with children of all ages. Every child must be accompanied by an adult.

Families can attend on Wednesdays and Thursdays during the programme, apart from Wednesday 19 August and Thursday 20 August, when no sessions will take place. Session times have not been published.

When and where families can attend

The sessions take place at the Wellbeing Hub in Crown Buildings, Wrexham. Their turn-up format means families do not have to register in advance or commit to attending throughout the summer: they can choose a remaining Wednesday or Thursday that suits them, subject to the two-day break in August.

The programme gives parents and accompanying adults a recurring free activity option during the holidays. Wrexham Council News, which published details of the sessions, said families can use the hub as a relaxed place to play, talk and spend time with other people.

What happens at the Family Zone

Free play, drinks and snacks are provided, although the activities and food may vary between visits. Staff and volunteers have already delivered sessions ranging from a dance party to serving spaghetti hoops on toast. These are examples of activities held so far, rather than a fixed programme for every remaining date.

The informal arrangement allows children to join in without their families having to book a place or attend a complete series. Feedback published by Wrexham Council News included a parent who said the sessions had provided something to do during the holidays, enabled children to socialise and offered a weekly activity.

Food and healthy-eating activities

Food provided during the programme has included fresh fruit, cereal, cereal bars and spaghetti hoops. Wrexham Foodbank donated those items, while Wellbeing Hub staff have also contributed snacks for families attending.

Healthy-eating activities have formed part of some sessions. Dietitians from Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board helped children create their own breakfast cereal, eat a healthy snack and learn about positive food choices. The health board’s Dietetics and Health Improvement teams have both supported activities at the hub.

Families should treat these examples as an indication of what has taken place rather than a promise that every activity or food item will be available on each date.

What to check before setting out

Entry is free and no booking is required, but an adult must accompany every child. The published information does not give session opening and closing times, transport guidance or accessibility arrangements, so families who need those details should check before travelling.

There are no sessions on 19 or 20 August. Questions about timings, accessibility or other arrangements can be sent directly to the Wellbeing Hub team at [email protected].
