Bexley will mark Armed Forces Day with two public events in Bexleyheath: a flag-raising ceremony at the Civic Offices on Monday 22 June at 10:15am, followed by the annual Civic Parade on Sunday 28 June from 9:45am.
The events are free, and residents are welcome to attend. The main locations are the Civic Offices on The Broadway and Christ Church, Bexleyheath, with the parade moving between the two venues before returning to the Civic Offices at about 11:45am.
Flag-raising at the Civic Offices on 22 June
The London Borough of Bexley will recognise Armed Forces Day on 22 June when the Mayor of Bexley, Councillor Lisa-Jane Moore, raises a flag outside the Civic Offices in Bexleyheath.
The ceremony is due to begin at 10:15am at the front of the Civic Offices. It will be followed by a short service giving thanks.
The 265 Kent and County of London Yeomanry (sharpshooter) Support Squadron and 71st (City of London) Yeomanry Signal Regiment are expected to attend. Representatives from Bexley’s Royal British Legion branches and local cadet groups will also be present.
Armed Forces Day officially falls on 27 June, giving communities across the country a moment to show support for serving personnel, veterans, cadets and the wider Armed Forces community. In Bexley, the borough’s public recognition begins several days earlier with the Civic Offices ceremony.
Civic Parade route through Bexleyheath
The annual Civic Parade takes place on Sunday 28 June. Those taking part will set off from the Civic Offices at 9:45am, led by a marching band and the Mayor.
The parade route runs from the Civic Offices along The Broadway to Christ Church, Bexleyheath. Youth groups, veterans and other local organisations are expected to take part.
At Christ Church, Rev’d Trevor Wyatt will lead a service of community celebration and thanks to welcome the new Mayor. The service begins at 10:30am, and all are welcome to attend.
After the service, the parade will march back to the Civic Offices, with arrival expected at approximately 11:45am.
