Bexley names Lisa-Jane Moore as 62nd Mayor

Councillor Lisa-Jane Moore has become the London Borough of Bexley’s 62nd Mayor, taking up the civic role at the council’s Annual Meeting on 27 May.

The Longlands ward councillor will serve with Mr Justin Moore as consort. She is the 74th person to hold the title of Mayor of Bexley since the old Borough of Bexley received its charter in 1937.

Longlands councillor takes civic office

Councillor Moore was first elected to the council in 2021 and served as Deputy Mayor from 2024 to 2025 before being appointed Mayor.

Her council work has included scrutiny roles covering Adults Social Care and Health, Children’s Services and Education, and three years chairing Children’s Services scrutiny. That work included attention to special educational needs and disabilities, and foster carer recruitment and retention.

The Mayor appointed Councillor Frazer Brooks, who represents Blackfen and Lamorbey ward, as Deputy Mayor. Ms Allison Hartshorn has been appointed Deputy Mayoress.

Career and community background

Born in East London, now KuGompo City, in South Africa’s Eastern Cape, Councillor Lisa-Jane Moore studied journalism and began her career running a local newspaper.

She moved to London in 1997 with her husband, Justin. The couple became British citizens in 2003 and moved to Sidcup the same year, where they have lived in Longlands ward since.

Councillor Moore has worked in communications, mainly in the public sector. Her career has included communications work linked to the Millennium Bug preparations, the London 2012 Olympic Games, and NHS communications during the Covid-19 pandemic and other major incidents.

Charities for the mayoral year

During her mayoral year, Councillor Moore plans to raise funds for three local causes: Crossroads Care South East London, Truly Beloved in Belvedere, and Diabetes UK Bexley.

Crossroads Care South East London supports adult unpaid carers, parent carers and older people across Bexley. Truly Beloved works with children with disabilities and special educational needs. Diabetes UK Bexley supports people affected by diabetes in the borough.

“I am proud to serve as the Mayor of Bexley,” Councillor Moore said. “This borough has been my home for over two decades and I am committed to working tirelessly to support and uplift our residents.”
