Residents of the Ogmore Valley can hear how the A4061 Blackmill river bridge replacement will be phased, and what traffic arrangements are planned, at a public meeting on Wednesday 28 October.

The meeting starts at 5.30pm at Blackmill Youth and Community Centre. It is intended to explain the work schedule, traffic management and measures agreed with public transport providers.

The council says the session will explain how the work is planned to keep inconvenience to a minimum. The supplied notice does not give an expected completion date or specific traffic restrictions.

Why the A4061 bridge deck is being replaced

Contractor Centregreat Limited has been appointed to replace the bridge’s main deck in its entirety. Routine checks found significant cracks and other issues in the existing structure, and the council says replacement is the only safe, practical option to keep the valley route open.

The A4061 is the main route in and out of the Ogmore Valley, so the work affects a key connection for local journeys. Gas, water and telecommunications services run beneath the bridge and will need to be rerouted while the project is under way. The contractor is liaising with utility companies.

Funding and further information

The Welsh Government is contributing up to £3.5 million towards the project, according to Councillors Gary Haines and Eugene Caparros, who share the Cabinet Member role for Climate Change and the Environment.

The council says a list of frequently asked questions about the Blackmill river bridge replacement is available on its website. The public meeting is the stated opportunity for residents to hear more about the schedule and local traffic and transport arrangements.
