Families in Brent will be able to visit two new Best Start in Life Family Hub launch events this summer, as the borough introduces a new Early Years Strategy aimed at making support easier to find from pregnancy through childhood.
The launch events are free to attend. St Raphael’s Best Start in Life Family Hub opens its doors on Wednesday 17 June, from 1pm to 3pm, followed by Preston Park Best Start in Life Family Hub on Thursday 2 July, from 11.30am to 2.30pm.
Brent Council says residents are invited to come along, meet local professionals and find out what support is available through the new hub network. The hubs are designed for families, parents, carers and young people, including young people with special educational needs up to the age of 25.

The new Best Start Family Hubs were formerly known as Brent Family Wellbeing Centres. Their purpose is to bring health, education and family support services into community settings, so parents and carers can find advice and guidance in one place rather than navigating separate routes.
That model is already appearing in other parts of England, including new family support plans in Northampton and approved Best Start Family Hubs in High Wycombe and Burnham. In Brent, the summer launch events give families a first chance to see how the local version will work.
Services families can ask about at the hubs
Brent Council says the hubs will connect families with services including health visiting, parenting support, early education, childcare advice, speech and language development, SEND support, and activities for children and young people.
The offer runs from pregnancy through to age 18, and up to 25 for young people with special educational needs. That wider age range matters for families who may need support beyond the early school years, particularly where education, health and family needs overlap.
The council’s new Early Years Strategy focuses on earlier intervention, stronger support for young children with additional needs, and reducing inequalities before they become barriers to a child’s development. It also sets targets to increase take-up of free childcare, improve school readiness and help more children thrive by the time they start school.
A strategy shaped by parents and professionals
Brent Council says the strategy and hub network were shaped by the views of more than 400 local parents, carers and professionals. The result is intended to create a more connected early years system across the borough, with services working around families rather than sitting in separate parts of the system.
Cllr Jake Rubin, Cabinet Member for Children’s Services, Employment and Climate Action, said every child should be able to get the best possible start in life and every family should be able to access support quickly and easily.
“Our new Best Start Family Hubs and Early Years Strategy mark a major step forward for Brent, bringing services together so families receive joined-up support from pregnancy through to school age,” he said.
