Edinburgh police seek victim after South Bridge assaults

Police Scotland is appealing for witnesses, private CCTV and dash-cam footage after two men were assaulted on South Bridge in Edinburgh during the early hours of Saturday, 1 August 2026. Detectives also want to hear directly from the man targeted in the first incident, whom officers are still trying to trace.

Two assaults along South Bridge

Clothing description released by detectives

The man detectives want to trace is described as white and between 30 and 40 years old. At the time, he was wearing a green top beneath a dark-coloured gilet, along with white trainers and a light-coloured baseball cap.

The description relates to the suspect reported to have continued along South Bridge between the two assaults. No name or image was included in the Police Scotland appeal.

Witnesses and recordings sought

Detective Sergeant Steven Dick said enquiries were continuing and asked anyone who witnessed either assault to contact officers. He made a separate appeal for the victim of the first assault to get in touch.
