Four new trustees bring music and youth expertise to Bristol Beacon: what residents need to know
Bristol Beacon has appointed four trustees whose experience spans music, creative learning, technology and youth engagement. Mark Bowers, Ellen Havard, Nigel Ipinson-Fleming and Ellara Wakely will join the board in November 2026, as the organisation develops its new five-year strategy.
Their backgrounds connect the venue’s board with work in music promotion, arts education, young people’s programmes and inclusive cultural engagement.
Four careers spanning music, learning and technology
Bowers has worked in the music industry for nearly 20 years, including seven years as a national promoter at Metropolis Music. He now leads Creative Futures for BIMM Institute across the UK and Europe, developing links between education, the music industry and Bristol’s creative sector.

Havard, a Bristol-born theatre director and creative facilitator, has more than 15 years’ experience creating opportunities for children and young people. Her past work includes the National Theatre and Bristol Old Vic; she is now Head of Young People’s Programme at Knowle West Media Centre.
Ipinson-Fleming has performed as a keyboardist with OMD and The Stone Roses. He is also a technology entrepreneur whose agencies Bildabiz and UKC provide creative, digital and strategic services, and serves as a Deputy Lieutenant for Bristol.

Wakely is Head of Schools Engagement at the National Theatre. Her previous roles include leading learning and public engagement programmes for the BBC Proms and BBC Orchestras and Choirs, and serving as a commissioning executive for BBC Radio 3.
New trustees join ahead of chair transition
The appointments come as Bristol Beacon prepares for a leadership change at board level. Sandeep Katwala is due to become chair in January 2027, succeeding Jonathan Dimbleby after his four-year term.

Dimbleby said the new trustees would contribute to the organisation’s next chapter. Chief executive Simon Wales said their experience would support Bristol Beacon’s work under its new five-year strategy, three years after the venue reopened in 2023.
