Free Eat Smart workshops coming to Wrexham communities
Wrexham residents will be able to join free nutrition and practical cooking workshops hosted in community venues, schools and clubs between July 2026 and February 2027. The sessions are open to every age group, although children must attend with an adult.
The Public Health Dietetic Team at Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board is now inviting local organisations to host the programme. Funded by Wrexham Food Partnership, Eat Smart, Save Better! will cost nothing for either hosts or participants.
Each session will accommodate between six and 12 people. A fixed public timetable, individual venue addresses and starting times have not yet been provided because the programme is still seeking suitable hosts across the county.
Two workshop formats put affordable meals into practice
Organisations can host one of two workshop formats. The one-hour Nutrition Workshop offers practical advice about planning and eating healthily on a budget. It is designed to help residents make informed everyday choices while managing pressure on household food spending.

The longer option is a 2.5-hour Practical Cooking Session led by NHS Community Dietitians. Participants will be guided through preparing simple, nutritious and low-cost meals, giving them direct experience rather than advice alone.
Everyone who participates will receive a free bag of shopping and a recipe book. These are intended to help people repeat what they have learned when cooking at home.
Cllr John Pritchard, chair of Wrexham’s cost of living member and officer working group, said bringing the workshops directly into community settings would make nutrition education more approachable and useful in residents’ daily lives.

Community spaces do not need a full kitchen
A school, club or community venue can take part even if it does not have a complete kitchen. The dietetic team will provide the equipment required for the workshops.
Hosts must have suitable hand-washing and washing-up facilities. Access to a fridge would be helpful but is described as a bonus rather than an essential requirement.
That relatively simple venue specification broadens the range of organisations that could accommodate a session. It also allows the workshops to take place in familiar local settings where existing groups already meet.

Who can take part in Wrexham
There is no upper or lower age limit for participants. Children can join when accompanied by an adult, making the programme suitable for mixed-age community groups as well as clubs serving a particular section of the population.
Places will be limited by the planned group size of six to 12 people per session. The source does not yet provide direct participant booking instructions, transport information or accessibility arrangements; those details will depend on the organisations and venues that agree to host.
How local organisations can offer a session
Community venues, schools and clubs interested in hosting should contact the Public Health Dietetic Team by emailing [email protected].
Prospective hosts can request a free session scheduled within the programme period from July 2026 to February 2027. The immediate next step is for organisations to confirm their interest and whether their venue has the required hand-washing and washing-up facilities.
