Free Park Yoga sessions are back at East Park in Wolverhampton, giving residents a free Sunday morning way to get active outdoors through the summer.

The weekly sessions run every Sunday until 13 September, from 9.30am to 10.30am. They are free to attend, open to all ages and abilities, and no advance booking is needed. People only need to bring a yoga mat if they have one, or a towel instead.

Beginner-friendly yoga in East Park

The sessions are being held by the national charity Park Yoga, supported locally by the City of Wolverhampton Council and Active Black Country. The format is designed to be accessible for people who may not usually attend a class, as well as those who already practise yoga.

Park Yoga instructor Deb Sahota said the sessions are beginner friendly and that participants do not have to complete every movement. She said some people may simply lie or sit in nature for the hour, depending on what feels right for them.

That detail matters for anyone unsure about joining a group fitness session. The event is not being presented as a performance-based class, but as a low-pressure outdoor session where people can take part at their own level.

Why the sessions are being backed locally

Councillor Obaida Ahmed, Cabinet Member for Health, Wellbeing and Community, said yoga can help enhance mood, reduce stress levels and improve muscle strength and flexibility.

The council said it hopes the East Park sessions will encourage people to look after their wellbeing by being active and spending time outdoors. For a city park setting, the format also gives residents a regular weekly meeting point rather than a one-off event.

The timing is simple: Sunday mornings, one hour, no booking system and no fee. That makes it easier for families, beginners, older residents and community groups to decide on the day whether to attend.

What to bring before joining in

Anyone planning to attend should go to East Park for the 9.30am start and bring a yoga mat if they have one. A towel can be used instead.

The source notice does not list extra booking, transport or accessibility arrangements, so residents should rely on the confirmed basics: the sessions are free, weekly, beginner friendly, and open to all ages and abilities until 13 September.
