Registration is officially opening for the 2026 edition of the “Summer for Improvement” (Vasara – tobulėjimui) program in the Kėdainiai district of Lithuania. This initiative, managed by the local municipality, aims to bridge the gap between education and the professional world by subsidising summer employment for students aged 14 to 21.

Running throughout July and August, the program provides a structured environment for young people to gain their first professional experiences while offering local businesses financial incentives to mentor the next generation of the workforce.

Eligibility Criteria for Students and Employers

The program is specifically designed for young residents of the Kėdainiai District Municipality. To be eligible, applicants must be between 14 and 21 years old, have their place of residence declared within the municipality, and be currently enrolled in a general education or vocational training institution.

Employers participating in the scheme must also be based in the Kėdainiai district. The program is open to a wide range of legal entities, including registered companies, non-profit organisations, local farmers, and individuals operating under a business certificate (sole traders).

Financial Support and Priority Placements

To encourage local participation, the municipality offers a significant subsidy to employers. For every young person employed full-time for one month, the employer is eligible for a reimbursement of €520.00. If the student works part-time, the compensation is calculated proportionally based on the hours actually worked.

Because funding for the program is finite, the municipality has established a priority system for applications. Preference is given to:
* Young people from families experiencing social risk or receiving social benefits.
* Students with special educational needs or disabilities.
* Youth currently in foster care or under guardianship.
* First-time participants who have not previously taken part in the summer job program.
* Earlier applications (on a first-come, first-served basis if other criteria are equal).

How to Complete the Registration Process

The registration window is strictly set between May 1 and May 31, 2026. Both the student and the employer must complete the registration form together.

Applicants must submit the following documents via email to gyventojai@kedainiai.lt by 3:00 PM on May 31, 2026:
1. A completed registration form signed by both parties.
2. A signed consent form for personal data processing.
3. For those under 16, written consent from a parent or legal guardian is mandatory.

For students looking for a placement, the municipality maintains a live database of participating employers who have expressed interest in hiring through the scheme. For further enquiries, the Youth Affairs Coordinator, Justina Koriznaitė, can be reached at +370 347 69 589 or via email at justina.koriznaite@kedainiai.lt.
