Krāslava Waste Management: New Contracts Required for Dagda Area

Residents and property owners in the eastern Latvian municipality of Krāslava are facing a mandatory shift in utility services. Following a decision by the municipal council to consolidate waste management into a single administrative zone, a new service provider will take over operations for the entire territory starting in the summer of 2026.

From June 20, 2026, the company SIA “Krāslavas nami” will become the sole provider of household waste management services across the Krāslava region. This transition marks the final phase of service integration following Latvia’s recent administrative reforms, which merged several smaller regional units into the current Krāslava municipality.

Areas Affected by the Transition

The most significant impact will be felt by those currently residing in what was previously designated as “Zone 2.” Residents in these areas must sign new service agreements to ensure their waste collection remains uninterrupted. The affected locations include:

  • Dagda Town
  • Parishes: Andrupene, Andzeļi, Asūne, Bērziņi, Dagda, Ezernieki, Kastuļina, Konstantinova, Ķepova, Svariņi, and Šķaune.

Under Section 16, Paragraph 4 of the national Waste Management Law, all waste producers in these specific parishes are legally required to enter into a new contract with SIA “Krāslavas nami” within two months of this official notification. Failure to do so could result in a lapse of service or potential administrative penalties for improper waste disposal.

Understanding the Regional Consolidation

This move toward a single-provider model is part of a broader trend across Latvia to streamline municipal services. By centralising waste management under one entity—SIA “Krāslavas nami”—the local government aims to standardise pricing and improve collection efficiency across both urban and rural sectors of the municipality. For residents, this means that even if they had a valid contract with a previous provider, that agreement will no longer be valid once the new system takes full effect in June 2026.

How to Sign Your New Contract

Residents are encouraged to complete the paperwork well ahead of the June deadline to avoid a last-minute rush. The municipality has provided several channels for residents to update their details and sign the necessary documents:

  • In Person: Visit the offices at Brīvības iela 5, Krāslava, LV-5601.
  • By Email: Send inquiries or digital applications to info@kraslavasnami.lv.
  • By Telephone: For specific questions regarding contract terms, call +371 65687002 or +371 65681569.

For international property owners or those managing estates from abroad, using the email channel with an electronic signature is the recommended method to ensure compliance with the new regional regulations.
