Leadership Transition at Hollister’s Major Lithuanian Manufacturing Hub

Hollister Lietuva, a prominent division of the US-based healthcare manufacturer Hollister Incorporated, has announced a significant shift in its senior leadership. Saulius Bitinas, who has served as the General Manager for the past three years, is stepping down to pursue new career opportunities outside the organization. To ensure operational stability at the Kaunas-based facility, the company has appointed Shane Caher as the interim General Manager.

Mr. Caher is a familiar figure within the Lithuanian operations, having served as the very first General Manager of the Kaunas plant from January 2019 until October 2021. He will temporarily relocate from Ireland to Kaunas to oversee the facility while the company conducts a search for a permanent successor. His return is viewed as a strategic move to maintain the facility’s momentum, leveraging his deep-rooted knowledge of the local team and corporate culture.

Expansion and Recognition Under Bitinas

Saulius Bitinas joined Hollister Lietuva in 2020, initially leading the continence care product manufacturing division. He played a pivotal role in the initial opening and subsequent scaling of the plant located in the Kaunas Free Economic Zone (FEZ). Since taking the helm as General Manager in 2023, Bitinas oversaw a period of rapid growth where the workforce expanded to over 900 employees, including the staff at the Hollister Shared Service Centre (SSC) Lithuania.

Under his leadership, the facility significantly ramped up the production of ostomy and continence care products. Furthermore, the site expanded its scope to include new product development and global business service functions. This period of expansion was recently capped by high-profile recognition; Hollister Lietuva was named “Investor of the Year” at the prestigious Investors’ Forum awards, highlighting its status as one of the strongest performers in Lithuania’s non-food industrial sector.

In a statement regarding his departure, Bitinas expressed pride in the team’s achievements, noting that the organization is currently in a strong position with a clear strategic path forward. He emphasized the professional and personal growth he experienced while building what has become a cornerstone of the company’s global operations.

Strategic Importance of the Kaunas Plant

The Kaunas facility, which began operations in October 2019, represents the largest single investment ever made by Hollister Incorporated. It is positioned as the primary axis for the company’s long-term operational growth. The plant serves a global market, developing and distributing essential medical supplies that are critical for patients with chronic conditions.

The choice of Shane Caher as interim leader underscores the company’s commitment to continuity. Having navigated the plant through its inaugural years, Caher’s temporary return from Ireland is intended to provide a seamless transition for the 900-strong workforce and ensure that production targets remain unaffected during the recruitment process for a permanent leader.

Global Footprint of Hollister Incorporated

Headquartered in Libertyville, Illinois, Hollister Incorporated remains an independent, employee-owned company. It develops, manufactures, and markets healthcare products and services worldwide, specifically focusing on ostomy care, continence care, and critical care.

With manufacturing and distribution centers spanning three continents and products sold in nearly 80 countries, the company maintains a significant global presence. The Lithuanian plant remains its most modern and strategically vital hub in Europe, reflecting the company’s broader mission to provide high-quality medical solutions to healthcare professionals and patients globally. The ongoing search for a permanent General Manager will focus on finding a leader capable of maintaining this trajectory of high-tech industrial growth in the Baltic region.
