Limavady banner contest faces 7 September deadline

Decorative banners hanging in a traditional stone alleyway with an arched stone passage.

A favourite Roe Valley view, an independent shop or a fragment of local history could soon appear above Limavady’s streets. Artists, photographers and other residents have until 4pm on Monday, 7 September 2026 to enter the free Limavady Town Centre banner competition.

The competition is open to everyone, with no age restrictions. Entries must be delivered in a sealed envelope to Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council, 7 Connell Street, Limavady, BT49 0HA. Entrants under 18 must include the name and contact details of a parent or guardian.

The winning artwork will be developed into banners for display throughout Limavady town centre. Each winner will also receive a £50 Causeway Coast and Glens Gift Card and recognition as the creator on the printed banner.

Limavady seen through local eyes

The competition asks entrants to explore the theme of Limavady as a place to work, shop, eat and enjoy local life. Suggested subjects include the town’s community, businesses, landscapes, heritage, arts, music, sport and familiar landmarks.

That leaves room for several forms of visual storytelling. An entry might capture the River Roe or Binevenagh Mountain, focus on the activity around local cafés and shops, revisit a personal memory or present a visual idea connected to Limavady’s identity.

Drawings, paintings, sketches, photographs and other creative visual concepts are invited. Professional experience is not required, but each design should be visually striking and make a positive contribution to the town-centre setting.

The initiative is being organised by Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council’s Town and Village Management Team in partnership with Limavady Town Centre Forum and Fibrus Broadband. The council says a judging panel will select the designs that move forward to banner production.

Artwork must suit a vertical street banner

Every submission must be the entrant’s original work and include a title. Artwork should be in portrait orientation because the finished banners will be mounted vertically on posts.

The recommended proportions are approximately 2:1 in height to width, while the minimum accepted artwork size is A4 portrait. Entrants must also include a short description explaining the inspiration behind the design.

Successful entrants may be asked for a high-resolution digital copy. If one is unavailable, the council may arrange to scan or photograph the original so it can be reproduced at suitable print quality. Originals provided for that process will be handled with care and returned wherever practicable.

Entrants retain ownership and copyright of their original artwork. Entering gives the council a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to reproduce, adapt and display it for the banners and for promotion connected with the competition and initiative. The artwork must not copy or infringe another person’s copyright or intellectual property rights.

What to put inside the sealed envelope

The envelope must be clearly marked “Limavady Banner Competition”. Alongside the artwork, entrants need to provide their name, address, telephone number, email address where applicable, the artwork’s title and its short accompanying description.

The council says entries will remain confidential until judging is complete and the successful entrants have been notified. No public event start time, transport information or accessibility arrangements are listed; the confirmed timing is the 4pm submission deadline on 7 September.

Completed entries should be taken to Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council at 7 Connell Street, Limavady, BT49 0HA. Questions about the competition can be directed to Geraldine Wills at [email protected].
