The Lithuanian Red Cross (LRK) has become the first national society in the Baltic region to be awarded the International First Aid Attestation (IFFA), a prestigious certification that validates its training programs against the highest global benchmarks. This achievement places Lithuania among an elite group of nations recognized for excellence in emergency response education by the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC).
Out of 191 national societies operating worldwide, only 23 have currently secured this certification, with 15 of those located in Europe. The attestation confirms that the first aid training provided by the Lithuanian Red Cross aligns with the latest international quality standards, ensuring that life-saving skills taught in the country are consistent with those recognized by global medical and humanitarian experts.
A New Benchmark for Emergency Response
The certification process, which concluded following a rigorous evaluation period that began last year, involved four distinct stages of the IFFA reference system. This comprehensive audit was not merely a review of educational materials but included live observations of instructors in action, assessments of training methodology, and an analysis of participant engagement levels.
Working alongside the Global First Aid Reference Centre (GFARC), the Lithuanian Red Cross underwent an exhaustive assessment of its curriculum. Based on expert recommendations, the organization has since refined its programs and developed a strategic roadmap to further enhance instructor competencies and expand its educational reach. This systematic approach ensures that the training remains dynamic and responsive to evolving medical guidelines.
Practical Skills Over Theoretical Knowledge
A core pillar of the IFFA standard is the shift from passive, theory-heavy learning to active, skill-based training. The Lithuanian Red Cross programs are now heavily weighted toward real-world simulations and practical exercises designed to build confidence in high-pressure situations. Ingrida Damulienė, General Secretary of the Lithuanian Red Cross, emphasized that this international recognition is a significant indicator of trust. For these entities, having employees trained to a verified international standard ensures a consistent level of safety and care across different geographic locations.

The impact of these high-standard training programs is already visible in Lithuania’s public safety statistics. In the past year alone, the Lithuanian Red Cross trained 23,745 individuals in first aid skills.
