Free sessions across 50 Milton Keynes locations

Milton Keynes City Council says the summer Holiday Fun and Food programme is aimed at local families who may face extra pressure during the longer school break.

Hundreds of activities are planned for children and young people, with options ranging from music and science to rock climbing, sports and outdoor adventures. The council says each booked session will include a meal as well as at least four hours of activity.

The scale of the offer is notable for families trying to plan several weeks of childcare, food and activities during the summer holidays. The council says eligible families will be able to book up to 16 sessions per child.

Families looking at similar holiday support elsewhere may also want to compare how other councils are handling free HAF summer activities during the school break.

SEND places are included in the summer offer

All sessions will welcome children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities, according to the council.

Nearly 2,400 tickets have been set aside for SEND-specific activities. Milton Keynes City Council says that is more than double the number included in last year’s programme.

The council has worked with 40 local clubs, charities, schools and organisations to deliver the activities, alongside its own Family Centres and Music Hub.

Councillor Peter Cannon, Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, said the programme would give young people the chance to try sports, outdoor adventures, creative activities and cultural experiences while receiving healthy meals.

How eligible families can book

Eligible families are expected to receive an e-voucher by email on Sunday 28 June. That voucher will allow them to book sessions through the online Holiday Fun and Food booking system.

The council says families can book up to 16 sessions per child. The programme is specifically for children and young people in receipt of benefit-related free school meals.
