Renfrewshire Employability Month: free Paisley events

Renfrewshire Employability Month will bring free job fairs, skills workshops and career support to Paisley from Tuesday 1 September to Thursday 24 September. Sessions will take place at Lagoon Leisure Centre, the University of the West of Scotland’s Paisley Campus and the Russell Institute, with the first event starting at 11am on 1 September.

The programme is open to school pupils and parents, young people, jobseekers, people returning to work and anyone considering a career change. Around 50 employers are expected to participate, alongside organisations offering employment, training and volunteering support.

Job vacancies, skills and one-to-one preparation

The Employment Support Showcase opens the programme with information about services intended to help residents move towards work. Later in the month, Skills for Success will combine talks, interactive workshops and networking at the University of the West of Scotland.

The volunteering event will introduce opportunities available across Renfrewshire. The final Careers and Jobs fair will allow visitors to meet employers from different industries and ask about current vacancies.

Employers due to take part across the month include Home Instead, Bluebirdcare, McTaggart Construction, Onecloud Healthcare, Visiting Angels and HMRC. Renfrewshire Council’s Modern Apprenticeships and Traineeships will also be represented.

Those who want focused application support can attend the four Getting Career Ready sessions. These provide CV guidance and mock interview practice, but places must be reserved by emailing [email protected].

Paisley venues and booking details

Lagoon Leisure Centre is at 11 Christie Street, Paisley PA1 1NB. The UWS Paisley Campus is on High Street, Paisley PA1 2BE, while the Russell Institute is at 30 Causeyside Street, Paisley PA1 1UN.

Most activities are drop-in events, although booking arrangements differ for Skills for Success and Getting Career Ready. The published programme provides venue addresses but does not include transport or accessibility guidance.

Renfrewshire Local Employability Partnership has organised the month-long series. Renfrewshire Council says its employability services supported more than 1,900 residents into employment, education or training opportunities during the past year.

Councillor Andy Steel, convener of the council’s Economy and Regeneration Policy Board, said the programme is intended for residents seeking new skills, qualifications, a first job or their next career step.
