Tour of Britain Women: Cockermouth bus changes on 19 August
The Tour of Britain Women comes to Cumberland on Wednesday 19 August, with the opening stage starting and finishing in Cockermouth. The free public event requires no booking and is open to the general public. Event-day arrangements begin at 4am, while the race is expected to finish in Cockermouth between 3pm and 3.50pm.
Cumberland Council says temporary bus arrangements and rolling road closures will affect journeys across west and north Cumberland. Most services will continue running, but passengers should allow extra time and check their route before leaving.
The 158.9km stage takes riders from Cockermouth through communities including Whitehaven, Workington, Maryport, Allonby, Silloth, Abbeytown, Wigton, Caldbeck and Aspatria before returning to the finish.
Cockermouth passengers must use temporary stops
Services X4, X5 and 600 will not use Main Street or the school stops on the eastern side of Cockermouth during the restrictions.
Between 9am and 11.30am, passengers must use the Crown Street stops near Aldi. From 4am to 9am, and again from 11.30am until 6.30pm, buses will serve both the Crown Street stops and the Fairfield Junior School stops on Sullart Street.

Temporary signs will direct passengers to the correct boarding points. Service 68 will also use these temporary stops.
Six services face cancellations, diversions or shorter journeys
The C123 Cockermouth Town Service will not operate at all on Wednesday. Other confirmed changes are:
- Service 60: The 10.43am departure from Workington will end at Silloth at 1.35pm instead of continuing to Skinburness. The 11.47am journey from Skinburness will begin at Silloth at 11.55am.
- Service 400: The 12.40pm departure from Carlisle will terminate at Wigton at 1.15pm. The 1.42pm departure from Silloth will instead start at Wigton at 2.09pm.
- Service 554: The 2pm departure from Carlisle and the 1.15pm departure from Keswick will operate as service 553.
- Service 600: The 1.40pm and 2.40pm departures from Carlisle will travel via Aspatria to Wigton. The 1.23pm and 2.23pm departures from Whitehaven will travel via Aspatria to Cockermouth.
Rolling closures could also delay otherwise unchanged services by around 15 to 20 minutes.

In Cockermouth, Main Street and Station Street will close from 4am to 6.30pm. South Street will close from 7am to 5pm, while Crown Street, Sullart Street and Gallowbarrow will be shut between 9am and 11.30am.
The A595 between Bothel and Cockermouth is scheduled to close from 2pm until 3.45pm for the final section of the stage. Cumberland Council notes that these are precautionary windows, so some restrictions may end sooner.
