Adur volunteers connect as local groups seek support
Adur Volunteering Week ended on Thursday 8 October with a celebration and networking event at The Shoreham Centre, bringing together volunteers, charities and community groups from Lancing, Sompting, Shoreham, Southwick and Fishersgate.
Volunteers and groups share what they need
The event gave attendees a chance to share experiences, make connections and discuss what support their groups need and what help volunteers can offer. During the week, Adur and Worthing Councils promoted local volunteering events and opportunities through their website.

Karen Macleod, chief executive of Adur Voluntary Action, spoke about opportunities to volunteer in Adur and stories from the week. The closing discussion focused on how support for the area’s voluntary and community sector could continue.

92 organisations nominated for recognition
Councillors and partners nominated 92 organisations. Councillor Adrienne Lowe, Adur’s cabinet member for communities, wellbeing and leisure, and Adur Chair Councillor Julia Watts presented certificates of appreciation to some of them.

Adur District Council leader Councillor Jeremy Garder and deputy leader Councillor Becky Allinson closed the event with a discussion about ongoing support for community organisations. The celebration marked the end of the week, which ran from 2 to 8 October 2026; residents can find the council’s information about the week and its volunteering opportunities on the Adur Volunteering Week page.
