Residents who help care for someone at home, nearby or in their wider family will have a dedicated place to find advice in Derby next week.
The Derby City Carers Week information and advice event will take place at Derby Market Hall on Tuesday 9 June, from 11am to 3pm. It is free to attend and is open to anyone who supports a family member, friend or neighbour who could not manage without that help because of illness, disability, mental health issues or addiction.
Organised by the Derby City Council Neighbourhoods team, the event is being held as part of Carers Week and will bring together more than 50 organisations and services under one roof.
Free advice at Derby Market Hall on Tuesday
The event is designed for unpaid carers, including people who may not use that word to describe themselves. In many households, care can mean arranging appointments, managing medicines, helping with daily routines, dealing with finances, or simply being the person another resident depends on each day.
Derby City Council said the event aims to raise awareness of unpaid carers across the city and connect people with the support, advice and services available to them.

More than 50 services and organisations attending
Visitors can expect presentations, information stalls and support covering a range of caring responsibilities. The source notice says more than 50 organisations and services will attend, giving carers a chance to ask questions and find out what help may be available locally.
That practical focus matters because some carers miss out on advice simply because their role has grown gradually. Someone may begin by checking in on a neighbour, helping a parent after illness, or supporting a partner with mental health needs, without ever seeing themselves as part of the wider unpaid care system or knowing how local adult social care policy may affect residents.
Councillor Sarah Chambers, Cabinet Member for Cost of Living, Equalities and Communities, said the event was an opportunity to recognise the contribution unpaid carers make to families and communities across Derby. She said many carers do not always see themselves as carers, and that events like this can help people discover support for wellbeing, finances and caring responsibilities.

BSL interpretation and translations available
Accessibility support has also been confirmed for the Derby event. British Sign Language interpretation will be available, along with translations in multiple languages, to help more residents take part.
Carers Week is a national annual campaign that recognises the contribution of unpaid carers, raises awareness of the challenges they face and helps connect people with support and advice. This year’s theme is Building Carer Friendly Communities, focusing on places, services and organisations where unpaid carers are recognised, understood and valued.
The Derby event runs from 11am to 3pm on Tuesday 9 June at Derby Market Hall. It is free, and Derby City Council says it is open to anyone who helps support someone who could not manage without their assistance.
