Free Cheshire East Carers Week events on 9 and 11 June

Unpaid carers in Cheshire East can attend two free Carers Week Community Events in June, with advice and local support available at both venues.

The sessions will run from 10.30am to 2.30pm on Tuesday 9 June at Salinae Day Centre in Middlewich and Thursday 11 June at Macclesfield Town Hall. No booking is required, and refreshments will be available.

The events are aimed at residents who care for someone, including people who may not usually describe themselves as a carer. Cheshire East Council says more than 34,000 residents across the borough are unpaid carers, around one in every 11 people aged five and over.

Who should attend Unpaid carers and residents who care for someone

The first event takes place at Salinae Day Centre, Middlewich, CW10 9DG. The second will be held in the Silk Room at Macclesfield Town Hall, Macclesfield, SK10 1EA.

Both sessions are being organised by Cheshire East Carers Hub and adult social care as part of Carers Week, which runs from 8 to 14 June under the theme “Building Carer Friendly Communities.”

Advice available on health, money and future planning

Attendees will be able to speak to organisations offering support across several areas of day-to-day caring life. The source lists help around health and wellbeing, benefits and financial advice, dementia support, young carers services, community groups and respite activities.

There will also be support linked to end-of-life and future planning, a practical area that many carers have to navigate while also managing immediate caring responsibilities.

The events are designed to connect carers with services and with each other. Feedback cited by the council points to the value of contact with other carers, support that fits around caring responsibilities, community help and everyday assistance such as meals.

Residents who care for someone are encouraged to attend

Cheshire East Council says unpaid carers provide essential care and support to family members, friends and neighbours living with long-term illness, disability, mental health needs or age-related conditions.

Councillor Jill Rhodes, Cheshire East Council cabinet member for adult social care, said unpaid carers are “at the heart” of communities in Cheshire East and support both loved ones and the wider health and care system.

She said Carers Week is a chance to raise awareness and help create communities where carers feel valued, supported and understood.

Residents who care for someone, even if they do not think of themselves as a carer, are encouraged to attend the events, seek support and connect with others.
