Free Scottish Employability Day help across East Dunbartonshire

A chat over a cuppa is the informal setting for a run of free employability sessions across East Dunbartonshire from Monday 7 to Tuesday 15 September. The first drop-in begins at Milngavie Library at 10.30am, with later sessions planned at four other libraries and New College Lanarkshire’s Kirkintilloch Campus.

East Dunbartonshire Council’s Skills for Learning, Life and Work Team is organising the programme ahead of the first Scottish Employability Day on Thursday 10 September. It is aimed at residents who want help moving into work or training, whether they are returning after a long break, looking for their first opportunity or deciding what to do after losing a job.

Seven sessions across libraries and the college campus

The published schedule covers six dates and seven sessions. Attendance is advertised as free and drop-in, so residents can choose the location and date that suit them.

Scottish Employability Day is a national initiative focused on employment support, skills development and routes into work. The East Dunbartonshire programme begins three days before the national day and continues into the following week, giving residents several opportunities to attend locally.

CV building, interviews and routes into training

Council staff will be available to discuss job-search techniques, interview skills and CV building. Residents can also ask about trainee roles, training opportunities and access to funding information.

The sessions are intended to provide an informal starting point rather than require attendees to arrive with a settled career plan. Councillor Lynda Williamson, convener of the council’s Education Committee, said staff can answer questions and explain initiatives that residents may not know are available.

The council notice does not state a time for the New College Lanarkshire session on Thursday 10 September. It also gives no transport or accessibility arrangements, so anyone who needs those details should check with the organising team before setting out.
