Loughborough athletes land nine Commonwealth medals

Nine medals, spanning four disciplines, put Loughborough-linked athletes at the centre of a remarkable evening at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

The haul comprised two gold, five silver and two bronze medals across 3×3 Basketball, 3×3 Wheelchair Basketball, swimming and athletics. The results involved athletes connected with Loughborough University, Loughborough College and Loughborough Lightning.

Gold-medal victories in 3×3 basketball

Loughborough alumni Jamell Anderson and Evan Walshe won gold with Team England in the men’s 3×3 Basketball final. England beat Australia 19-17 in a tense contest to become Commonwealth champions.

Former scholar and Loughborough College learner Kyle Jiminez also reached the podium. Representing Scotland, he won bronze after an 18-16 victory over New Zealand.

University-linked athletes Robyn Love and Kayli English won silver as part of the Scotland team, while alum Thomas Harvey collected another silver for Team England in the men’s 3×3 Wheelchair Basketball final. Australia won that match 19-13.

Swimming adds two more silver medals

Daniel Wiffen secured silver for Northern Ireland in the men’s 1500m Freestyle. The Loughborough-linked swimmer controlled second place from the early stages, matching the silver he won in the same event at Birmingham 2022.

Team England’s men’s 4x100m Medley team also finished with silver. Loughborough-linked Adam Ramsay-Peaty represented the team, while Luke Greenbank and Gregory Butler competed in the heats.

Together, the swimming results added two medals to an already substantial tally and extended Loughborough’s presence across the Glasgow programme.

O’Dowda upgrades Birmingham result

Jade O’Dowda won silver for Team England in the women’s Heptathlon with 6,278 points. The university-based athlete improved on the bronze medal she won at Birmingham four years earlier.

Kevin Santos completed the athletics results with bronze in the men’s 100m T47 final. He recorded a season’s best time of 10.85 seconds to reach the podium for England.
