Rochford residents and businesses have until Tuesday 15 September 2026 to influence how the district council approaches spending, services and potential income measures for 2027/28.

The Budget and Corporate Priorities Survey is gathering views before councillors set the next council budget and Council Tax level. Rochford District Council says no decisions have been made and responses will guide its budget discussions.

The consultation asks whether the council should spend less, the same amount or more on managing parks and open spaces. It also seeks views on whether council-owned assets should be used to maximise benefits for the community.

Another issue is whether charges should be introduced for optional services that the council is permitted to provide but is not legally required to deliver. These questions allow respondents to indicate which services they value and how they feel about possible ways of raising additional income.

The £272.88 household figure explained

Rochford District Council says it receives an average of £272.88 a year from each household through Council Tax in the current financial year. That is the amount cited by the district council for its share, rather than a description of every charge shown on a household’s full Council Tax bill.

The council also funds its work through business rates, income it generates itself and specific grants for which it can apply. Its annual budget must balance the cost of providing services against the money available from those sources.

Online and paper response options

Residents and businesses can complete the Council priorities survey online through Rochford District Council. People without internet access can collect a paper copy from the council reception at Rochford Library, Roche Close.

Responses close on 15 September

Councillor Adi Malviya, leader of Rochford District Council, said councillors will still need to set the coming year’s budget and Council Tax regardless of what happens with Local Government Reorganisation. He said responses about services and possible income options would help councillors represent residents’ views.

Completed online or paper responses must be submitted before the survey closes on Tuesday 15 September 2026.
