Sefton families get one-stop support toolkit: key details

Sefton families now have a single online place to look for local support, parenting guidance, health information and family activities. The Sefton Family Life Toolkit has been launched as a virtual family hub for parents, carers, children, young people and professionals across the borough.

The portal is designed to reduce the time families spend searching across separate council, health, education and community service pages. Sefton Council says the aim is to help residents find the right support earlier, before a concern becomes harder to manage.

Family support brought into one Sefton portal

The Family Life Toolkit brings together guidance across several areas of family life, including early years, health services, education, parenting support and SEND information.

For parents and carers, that means the portal can act as a first stop when looking for help with child development, school-related support, additional needs, wellbeing or local family services. For young people, it also offers a route into information that may otherwise sit across different organisations.

The toolkit is not only for families already receiving support. It is also intended for residents who are unsure where to start, including those looking for early help, local sessions or practical advice before contacting a service directly.

Who the Sefton Family Life Toolkit is aimed at

The service is open to families across Sefton, including parents, carers, children and young people. Professionals and community partners are also being encouraged to use it so they can point families towards the same information and local services.

The portal includes multiple language options and can adapt to the default language settings on a user’s device. That should make it easier for families who prefer to read guidance in another language or who may have struggled with English-only service information.

Accessibility features include an audio-enabled search option, allowing users to speak into the platform to find relevant information. This may help residents who prefer voice navigation or who have additional access needs.

Bookings and live chat built into the toolkit

A key feature is the integrated booking system. Families can browse and book local services, activities and support sessions through the platform, without moving between several separate systems.

The toolkit also includes a live chat function. Sefton Council says responses are drawn from information already held inside the portal, rather than from external sources, so answers should stay tied to approved local guidance.

Users can also follow personalised pathways, which are designed to guide them towards relevant information, reminders and services over time. For families dealing with several issues at once, that could make it easier to keep track of what support is available locally.

How families can access the new service

The Sefton Family Life Toolkit is available online now and can also be downloaded as an app to a smartphone or tablet. The app option is intended to give families a more streamlined way to return to guidance, bookings and support tools while they are away from a desktop computer.

Cllr Diane Roscoe, Cabinet Member for Children, Schools and Families, said families want “clear, reliable and easy-to-access information” and that bringing services together in one place should help them get support more quickly and confidently.
