How the Sefton Community Lottery works

The new lottery has been set up to raise money for voluntary, community and faith organisations, often known locally as VCF groups, and wider community initiatives across Sefton.

For every £1 ticket sold, 60% will go directly towards supporting those local organisations and causes. Players are able to pick the local cause they want their ticket to support, then buy as many £1 tickets as they choose.

The weekly lottery offers a chance to win prizes of up to £25,000. Sefton Council has also stated that players have a 1 in 50 chance of winning, describing the odds as better than the National Lottery.

For local groups, the unrestricted nature of the funding is a key part of the model. It means money raised can help organisations continue services, support residents, bring people together and cover the practical costs that come with community work across the borough.

Launch draw prizes include Sefton event tickets

Alongside the main prize, the first weekly draw will include a special Super Draw with tickets and experiences linked to events in Sefton.

The launch prize list includes pairs of general admission tickets for Salt and Tar concerts by Billy Ocean on Thursday 13 August 2026, The Waterboys on Friday 14 August 2026, The Saw Doctors on Saturday 15 August 2026, and Nile Rogers & Chic on Monday 17 August 2026.

There are also two family tickets for four people for the Southport Air Show, valid for either Saturday 29 August or Sunday 30 August, plus four tickets for the British Musical Fireworks Championship on Sunday 27 September. A £40 voucher for Southport Market is also included in the Super Draw prize list.

Local causes are at the centre of the draw

Angela White, Chief Executive of Sefton CVS, said voluntary, community and faith organisations are central to daily life in Sefton because they deliver support, connect residents and make a difference locally.

She said the lottery gives residents a direct route to help those organisations continue and grow their work by buying a ticket and choosing the cause that matters to them.

Councillor Liz Dowd, Sefton Council’s Cabinet Member for Communities and Partnership Engagement, said the Sefton Community Lottery gives people a way to support projects that benefit local residents and neighbourhoods while also entering for the chance to win a major cash prize or tickets to events taking place in Sefton this summer.

What residents need before the first draw

Tickets are available now through Sefton Council’s website. Residents taking part need to select the local good cause they want to support, then buy £1 tickets for the weekly lottery.

The first weekly draw takes place online on Saturday 4 July 2026. The source information lists the venue as online and does not provide a physical address or a draw time.
