Bridgend sports clubs can seek help to widen local access
Sports clubs and community organisations in Bridgend County Borough can apply for grants of up to £1,000 through the new Support for Sport Fund. The council announced the fund on 14 October 2026 to help local groups create more opportunities for people of all ages and abilities to take part in sport and physical activity.
Who can apply and what the grant supports
The fund is open to constituted sports clubs, eligible clubs affiliated with a National Governing Body, community groups and voluntary organisations operating in Bridgend County Borough. It aims to increase participation, improve opportunities for under-represented groups and support healthier, more connected communities.
A grant can help pay for equipment, taster sessions, volunteer or coach training, disability inclusion equipment, community sports events, venue hire for new activities, promotional materials or start-up costs for a new community sports project.
What is changing at Brackla Sports Centre
Alongside the fund, investment from Bridgend County Borough Council and Sport Wales’ Capital Investment Fund has upgraded the outdoor courts at Brackla Sports Centre, based at Archbishop McGrath Catholic School. Two hard courts have been replaced by one all-weather, multi-use playing surface, with energy-efficient LED floodlighting for evening activities.
The improved surface is intended to give school pupils more opportunities for sport and extracurricular activities, while local clubs and community groups can use the facility for a broader range of sports, holiday programmes and activities beyond the school day.
How to apply
Eligible organisations can apply for up to £1,000, with one application permitted per financial year. Awards are subject to funding remaining available. Check the Support for Sport Fund information for the full eligibility criteria and application details before applying.
