Police Scotland is appealing for help to trace 58-year-old George McCulloch, who was last seen leaving Oban in a white Volkswagen campervan with his small Jack Russell-type dog.

Mr McCulloch was seen at around 9am on Monday, 27 July 2026. He intended to travel home to Hawick after visiting Oban, but has not arrived. Police Scotland said officers and his family are increasingly concerned for his welfare and that of his dog.

Details released by Police Scotland

Mr McCulloch is described as 5ft 8in tall, bald, with white or grey hair at the sides and a grey beard. He was wearing a blue polo shirt and camouflage shorts when he was last seen.

The campervan is white and has the registration GF18 UXZ. Police are asking people to think about whether they may have seen the vehicle travelling from Oban, Mr McCulloch himself or the dog accompanying him.

The registration number is a key identifying detail for anyone who may have noticed the campervan without knowing that its occupant was the subject of a missing-person appeal. Police have not provided a confirmed location for Mr McCulloch or the vehicle since he was last seen.

The appeal follows a separate Police Scotland missing-person appeal in Arbroath, as officers continue to seek information from the public when a person has not completed an intended journey.

Police contact details

Inspector Robert Maclean said officers and Mr McCulloch’s family were “growing increasingly concerned” for him and his dog. He asked anyone who had seen Mr McCulloch or knew the whereabouts of the campervan to contact police as soon as possible.

Anyone with information should contact Police Scotland on 101 and quote incident number 3568 of 28 July 2026. This includes people who may have seen the white Volkswagen campervan, registration GF18 UXZ, or Mr McCulloch and his small Jack Russell-type dog after he left Oban.

The appeal is based on information released by Police Scotland News. The force’s request is for sightings or information that may help establish where Mr McCulloch or the campervan is now.
