White Volkswagen driver sought after Dunmaglass crash
By Beehive Web Newsdesk | Published 2 August 2026
Police are seeking witnesses after a 74-year-old man suffered serious injuries in a crash involving a Rewaco trike on the B851 near Dunmaglass.
The collision happened south of Loch Ness at about 3pm on Saturday, 1 August 2026. Police Scotland is particularly keen to trace the driver of a white Volkswagen Golf or Polo seen on the road around that time.
Anyone who witnessed the crash, travelled through the area or recorded potentially relevant dash-cam footage can contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident 1880 of 1 August.
Crash on the B851 south of Loch Ness
Emergency services attended after the Rewaco trike crashed near Dunmaglass. Its 74-year-old male driver was taken to hospital, where Police Scotland said he was being treated for serious injuries.
The passenger travelling on the trike was uninjured. Police have not released further information about the injured man or identified the hospital treating him.
The circumstances leading to the crash remain under investigation. The police appeal does not say whether another vehicle was directly involved, and no cause has been established in the information released so far.
The appeal was issued by Police Scotland’s Road Policing officers as enquiries continued into the sequence of events. The confirmed location is the B851 near Dunmaglass, south of Loch Ness, and the relevant time is around 3pm on 1 August.

White Volkswagen driver may hold information
Constable Andrew Mackenzie said officers were continuing their work to establish the circumstances surrounding the crash. Police want to hear from motorists who may have seen the collision or who hold information capable of assisting the investigation.
Officers are also trying to identify the driver of a white Volkswagen described as either a Golf or a Polo. The vehicle was seen on the road around the time of the crash, but the appeal does not state that it was involved in the collision.
That distinction is important: police are seeking the driver as someone who may have useful information. No allegation concerning the Volkswagen driver was included in the appeal.
Motorists who travelled on the B851 near Dunmaglass around 3pm are asked to consider whether they saw the trike, the white Volkswagen or the crash itself. Relevant dash-cam footage may also assist officers, including recordings held by drivers who passed through the area without witnessing the collision directly.
Information can be submitted through 101
Witnesses, the Volkswagen driver and anyone holding information or relevant dash-cam footage should contact Police Scotland by calling 101.
Callers should quote incident number 1880 of 1 August so their information can be connected with the correct Road Policing investigation. The appeal remains focused on establishing what happened and tracing anyone whose observations or recordings may help clarify the circumstances.
