Dash-cam appeal after fatal A95 crash near Aberlour

A 21-year-old man has died following a collision involving a Renault Clio and a Scania lorry on the A95 near Aberlour.

Police Scotland is appealing for witnesses and dash-cam footage as Road Policing officers investigate the crash, which happened at about 9.15pm on Friday, 24 July. The collision occurred between the High Street and the B9138 at Marypark.

Emergency services attended the scene, but the 21-year-old driver of the Renault Clio was pronounced dead there. Police have not released his name in the published appeal.

The driver of the Scania lorry was assessed by paramedics at the scene. No other injuries were reported.

Road Policing officers are seeking information about the movements of both vehicles before the collision, as well as direct accounts from anyone who witnessed what happened. The circumstances leading to the crash have not been established in the information released by Police Scotland, and enquiries remain ongoing.

The affected section of the A95 was closed while officers carried out enquiries at the scene. Police Scotland confirmed that the road reopened at about 2.30pm on Saturday, 25 July.

The location identified in the appeal lies on the A95 between Aberlour High Street and the junction with the B9138 at Marypark. That precise stretch, together with the confirmed time of approximately 9.15pm, may help drivers determine whether they travelled through the area shortly before or around the collision.

Police have not announced any further road closure connected with the incident. The reopening means the immediate traffic restriction has ended, while the investigation continues separately.

The confirmed sequence is that the collision occurred on Friday evening, the road remained closed while enquiries were conducted, and it reopened the following afternoon. Police have not provided further information about the cause in their published statement.

Police seek witnesses and dash-cam recordings

Sergeant Chris Bain said officers’ thoughts remained with the family and friends of the man who died. He asked anyone who witnessed the collision, or saw either the Renault Clio or Scania lorry beforehand, to contact police.

Drivers who were in the Aberlour and Marypark area at the relevant time on Friday evening have also been asked to review their dash-cam recordings. Police are looking for anything that could assist the investigation, so footage may be relevant if it captured either vehicle before the crash, even when the collision itself is not visible.

The appeal remains focused on witness accounts, sightings of the vehicles before the collision and recordings made by motorists in the area. No deadline for submitting information was stated.
