Milton Keynes carers get free 10 June support event

Unpaid carers in Milton Keynes will be able to speak directly with local support services at a free drop-in Carers Support Event on Wednesday 10 June.

The event runs from 11am to 1pm at Simpson Day Centre, Simpson Road, Milton Keynes, MK6 3AF. It is open to MK residents who provide regular care for a friend or family member, as well as friends and family who want to learn more about the help available.

Milton Keynes City Council is bringing together specialist organisations during Carers Week, with advice expected to cover money, benefits, emergency planning, housing options and wider support for unpaid carers of all ages.

Free drop-in advice at Simpson Day Centre

The Carers Support Event is designed as a practical face-to-face session rather than a formal appointment. The council describes it as a drop-in event, with no charge to attend.

Representatives from services across Milton Keynes City Council will be joined by local and national organisations including Age UK, Healthwatch, the NHS, Citizens Advice and Alzheimer’s Society.

For carers who are trying to work out what help they can ask for, the event offers a chance to put questions to professionals in one place. The council says support can include help to unlock money and benefits, plan for emergencies, access housing options and find further assistance depending on individual circumstances.

The event also gives carers the chance to meet other people in similar situations. That social element matters for a role that is often carried out quietly at home, sometimes alongside work, school or other family responsibilities.

Who the Carers Support Event is for

The session is aimed at unpaid carers in Milton Keynes. That includes people who regularly look after a friend or family member who could not cope without their help because of illness, disability, a mental health problem or an addiction.

Milton Keynes City Council estimates there could be 21,000 unpaid carers in MK, including young carers. The council’s dedicated Carers Support Service, launched last year with Citizens Advice and Alzheimer’s Society, combines face-to-face, phone and online help.
