Unpaid carers in Milton Keynes will be able to speak directly with local support services at a free drop-in event during Carers Week.
The Carers Support Event takes place on Wednesday 10 June, from 11am to 1pm, at Simpson Day Centre, Simpson Road, MK6 3AF. It is free to attend and open to unpaid carers, as well as friends and family who want to understand what help is available locally.
Milton Keynes City Council says the event is designed for residents who provide regular care for a friend or family member, including people supporting someone because of illness, disability, a mental health problem or an addiction.

The event will bring together services from across Milton Keynes City Council and local specialist organisations, giving carers a chance to ask practical questions in person rather than navigate support alone.
Organisations expected to be represented include Age UK, Healthwatch, the NHS, Citizens Advice and Alzheimer’s Society. Citizens Advice and Alzheimer’s Society are also part of the council’s dedicated Carers Support Service, which was launched last year.
That service combines specialist assistance for unpaid carers of all ages, including face-to-face, phone and online support. The council says carers can get help with money and benefits, emergency planning, housing options and other forms of assistance that vary by individual need.
The event also gives carers the chance to meet others in similar situations. For people who spend much of the week focused on someone else’s care, that peer contact can be one of the most useful parts of a local support session.
What unpaid carers can ask about
Milton Keynes City Council estimates there could be 21,000 unpaid carers in MK, including many young carers who look after family members who could not cope without their help.
The support available at the Carers Support Event is expected to cover everyday questions that often sit behind unpaid care: whether a carer may be eligible for financial help, how to make a plan for emergencies, what housing options may exist, and where to turn when caring responsibilities change.
The council provides a minimum direct payment of £240 for unpaid carers, alongside access to additional assistance depending on individual circumstances.
